Lives up to its title

My husband and I are driving around the world. We started from Los Angeles and are now heading south. Our first leg of the journey is the Pan-American Highway to the tip of South America. Considering that just about every country along the way speaks Spanish, I decided that it would be a good idea if I learned the language. I started this book on my Kindle the day we crossed the border into Mexico, and I finished it a couple months ago in El Salvador. It took me a few months to complete it, but I did all the exercises, took days off from studying, reviewed past chapters along the way, etc.. I can honestly say that all my hard work paid off. I speak Spanish now, and pretty damn well to boot! I also took two weeks of live classes with a teacher in Mexico, and honestly, comparing the two, my Kindle book did a better job of lesson planning and explaining the grammar than my Spanish teacher did. The layout of the book is awesome, and everything you learn is relevant. If you dedicate yourself to studying every day, you can get up to a strong intermediate level of speaking with this book. I only wish the author made an advanced version too!

Great Text for Online Class

I bought this as a text required for an online class with EcuSpanish. Both my wife and I have been sharing it for our individual sessions 2 or 3 times a week each. The book is easy to read and has a good logical progression into conversational Spanish. However, you really do need someone like our instructor, Virginia, an Equadorian personal teacher, who interacts with us online while we read or engages us in conversation to reinforce the book topics. The questions in the book become the homework for the next session. The instructor corrects the pronunciation, something you really need and that the book alone cannot do.
The book price is good and is a small fraction of what good personal tutoring costs. It is an excellent value.
Using this book with a tutor has improved my Spanish skill significantly. A word to the wise, the book alone is not adequate.

About the Author
The Made Ridiculously Simple Series was founded by Stephen Goldberg. A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he subsequently trained in Neurology, becoming Board Certified in Ophthalmology and Family Medicine.

As a faculty member at the University of Miami School of Medicine, both in the Family Medicine and Cell Biology/Anatomy Departments, he has been involved in the education of medical students and residents for the past 25 years. Dr. Goldberg has received the George Paff Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Miami School of Medicine eleven times since its inception in 1985.

He has authored a number of titles in the MedMaster series and has worked with other authors in an editorial capacity. His first book, Clinical Neuroanatomy Made Ridiculously Simple has sold over 300,000 English edition copies.

I still recommend this to med students that I teach. I love that there are only 2 chapters:

1 - Cardio-Pulmonary-Renal
2 - Everything else.

Goldberg is brilliant. As Einstein said, things should be as simple as possible, but no simpler. This book hits the sweet spot..

Use as directed, separate the forest from the trees!

I'm a first year Med student and have found this book to be a valuable resource. The explanations are perfect for gaining a broad understanding of often difficult subjects before diving into the textbooks and journals.
The chapters about fluid/electrolyte balance and immunology are incredible, clarifying concepts that I had struggled through previously. In addition, clinical correlations augment the discussion of normal physiology, keeping things real for those us getting early clinical exposure on the wards. The author implements useful drawings and flowcharts that further simplify complex material. For example, the immunology "cartoon" flowchart is perfect for understanding the central role of CD4 cells in binding to an MHC2, and depicting the numerous downstream events of adaptive immunity. In takes about an hour or two to plow through a chapter (and actually understand everything), but in the end, you have a great foundation that can be enhanced through lectures or PBL depending on your program.
Regarding the negative reviews below, what do these people expect from such a thin book? The author even admits in his preface that it should be used in conjunction with a text. I don't feel this book is intended for USMLE preparation or as a "study guide" for a medical school exam. These reviewers would be better served with a large spoon, a copy of Guyton, and a bib.
Clinical Phys made ridiculously simple dumbs down complex subjects and gives you a big picture understanding of how things work- this is the first book I've come across that makes learning physiology simple and efficient. In addition, I've found the Radiology, Anatomy and Microbiology books in this series to be particularly useful so far.

excellent resource

As with other books by Dr. Goldberg, this one is nothing short of miraculous! Through a systems-based approach, an otherwise complicated and tedious subject is transformed into an accesible and enjoyable voyage. Quite honestly, you should leave your standard thick physiology texts in the corner to use for curls or bench pressing... this book ABSOLUTELY encompasses the key knowledge of physiology in a fraction of the time. It seems like a gimmick, but it isn't. Having graduated from med school a few years ago, I can still say with authority that this book will serve you well into the future, not to mention on your next test, which will undoubtedly include mostly clinically oriented questions which, in turn, can ALL be answered after a careful and thoughtful review of this book. Don't waste any more time... read this one first! --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Is it possible to overcome shady behavior? Well in STILL SHEISTY: PART 2 by T. N. Baker, the sequel to Sheisty, we learn if it's likely. Epiphany Wright, Keisha Moore and Shana Scott continue their drama-filled lives from book one. Because of her gold-digging ways, Epiphany finds herself near death and a close friend actually dead. When she awakens from her coma, she doesn't remember what happened which is a good thing for a gangster named C-God and his partner Ness because they are the ones responsible. If Epiphany remembers, their best bet will be for the cops to get them first because street justice can be a killer.

Keisha does the unthinkable due to loneliness. She has it all: a nice job, a beautiful home, a child, and a man who would do anything for her, but she tosses it away for a brief romp in the sack that was unfortunately caught on tape. But was it really her fault? Or did she have some help from the little green-eyed monster?

With her man, K. C., fresh out of the joint, Shana is doing her thing and keeping it real while making some money. But she has a secret and is praying K. C. doesn't find out. Sadly, someone else wants a piece of her action and is willing to blackmail her to get it. What price is she willing to pay to keep it a secret?

This was definitely a page-turner from beginning to end. Ms. Baker did an excellent job capturing enough details from the first book so that STILL SHEISTY could stand alone. The drama was so thick that I found myself caught up in the lives of the main characters from the get go. This book was about what goes around comes around. Each of the main characters taught a lesson about the choices we make and the repercussions that follow. You may be getting yours now, but, in the end, there is a price to pay. Although I enjoyed the action-packed, drama-filled pages, I felt some fine-tuning was needed in the editing department. There were enough typographical and grammatical errors to make this a distracting read at times. Despite that, this is one book I'm sure will be a big hit with the hip-hop generation. (RAW Rating: 3.5)

Better Than The First

I will say that I enjoyed "Still Sheisty" much better than the first book. Ms. Baker took the challenge and improved her writing which can only get better as time goes on. She made sure to have more action with each of the characters and the story was a serious page turner. I look forward to her next novel.

Although I liked this novel, I can only give it 3.5 stars. Why? Ms. Baker may have stepped up her writing game but the editors at Triple Crown aren't even at the starting line. I don't know how the authors submit their finished work at this publication but I do know that it is a crying shame that on almost every other page of this book there were grammatical errors and typos. I will continue to say that Triple Crown needs to be more professional in what's being printed. You will continue to be perceived as a "ghetto book company" if you don't correct these mistakes. It takes so much away from the story. I think that you are also taking your customer for granted. Fifteen dollars is a lot to spend for one book, it's not too much to ask that the mistakes are at least kept to a minimum.

Also, when the reviewers are reviewing the book, it's not necessary to give away all the details, just say if you like it or not!! There are too many reviews on here where people are telling everything that happens, including the end.

STILL SHEISTY!!!

Even though I never read part one, this book is GOOD!!! Epiphany is a light-skinned beauty whose gold-digging ways almost end in her death. She wakes up from a coma, not remembering who did the dirty deed but her friends Keisha and Shana have a pretty good idea. Keisha lets her loose lips end a seven year relationship with her sons father Tucker. The girl she was bragging to was trying to take her place and would stop at nothing to be down for Tucker. Shana help her boyfriend K.C. down when he was locked up but she has a secret that could ruin them. Smitty, K.C. 's patna is hitting her up for 40% of her ecstacy sales to keep the secret to himself. But unbeknownst to her, K.C. has some of his own secrets. What will happen to this trio? Cop the book. But remember: You reap what u sow!!
