About the Author
From 1985 to the present, Mr. Osamaro Ibie has been serving as a member of the governing Council of the Federal Government owned University of Benin, in Edo State. Since his retirement from the Civil Service in 1980, he has actively engaged in business in the private sector. He was in 1992 awarded an Honarary Fellowship of the Institute of Administrative Management of Nigeria (FIAMN - Hon.) and recognized as a certified and Distinguished Administrator (CDA). In 2000, Mr. C. Osamaro Ibie received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence, University of Marlborough, Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.

Vidal typically includes denunciations of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Truman for their part in constructing America's "National Security State." He believes that the Cold Warriors invented a phony Communist bogeyman and that "Israeli fifth columnists" such as Norman Podhoretz control America's policy in the Middle East. Vidal would end the war on drugs and nationalize health care and natural resources. And he would change the Constitution to make America a parliamentary democracy and break the monopoly of what he calls the "Property party," with "its two wings: Republican and Democrat." Vidal is at his most convincing and entertaining when he's jeering at democratic pieties about America, which he believes is actually an oligarchy run by a military-industrial-financial elite that he calls "the bank." Vidal may be in tune with the zeitgeist again because his polemical writing resembles the new blogger punditry: conversational, tart, fervent, digressive, susceptible to idiosyncratic theories but capable of worthwhile provocations.

Like Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace (2002) and Dreaming War (2003), this final volume in Vidal's trilogy attacking the "Cheney-Bush junta" contains some new analysis padded out by previously published essays (most of these are from the 1980s). This time, Vidal tackles the American imperial impulse, placing the Cheney-Bush wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the context of America's 1846 seizure of California and the later annexation of colonies in the Pacific. Vidal's vast knowledge of American history and his blazing wit set him apart from the other Bush bashers, and even his old stuff will be fun to read for those sharing his point of view. Some of the material is dated, though, such as an analysis from 1985 of Reagan's Christian apocalypticism, which never really gets connected to imperial America or its current leaders. And the book's organization leaves something to be desired; some observations are repeated almost verbatim 100 pages apart. Still, Vidal's fierce, vitriolic voice remains relevant. The highlight of the book is the opening essay, a scathing critique of what Vidal calls Cheney-Bush's "hijacking" of the election and their subsequent administration, and so it's a bit disappointing that most of the material here is older. Vidal's historical analysis is often fascinating, but fellow Bush-bashers will wish for more current intelligence. John Green

He is critical of its bad government.
He is angry at injustices, power-mongering, greed and stupidity.
In the old days, Vidal would be like John the Baptist or some sage trying to make people listen and change.
But in today's human realm, perhaps his voice is not taken seriously.

"Power Corrupts, and Abosolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

Gore Vidal's anthology titled IMPERIAL AMERICA is an anthology of essays written between 1980s and c. 2004. While these essays may seem dated to those with short memories,the theme of unbridled power, media lying, and the outer limits of hypocrisy are the same even though the "actors" are different.

Vidal cites historical anecdotes and comments from the Founding Fathers about the perils of political power. According to Vidal, American drive toward imperial power and central power began with the Civil War or the War of Southern Secession or the War of Southern Independence. The basic synamic of this war was that Northern Bankers made considerale money and have ever since became more greedy and powerful.

Vidal's description of the Spanish-American War includes the bloody suppression of the people of the Phillipines who were promised independence in 1898 only to have such promises and oaths revoked. The subsequent war of suppression which probably lasted from 1898 to 1902 costing over 200,000 lives.

Vidal's description of the Cold War is as clear a presentation of trends and events as this reviewer has read. What U.S. authorities could have gained by policy, they tried to get by military force. Vidal explains that the reasons for this use of force was/is to enhance arms executives, oil executives, and bankers at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.

Many times U.S. citizens are not alert to the "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace" trends because journalists and yes, historians repeat the same distortions and lies. Due to corportate executives controlling newpapers and other media sources, journalists, and academicians have "sold their soul" to please corporate masters and bankers. If one reflects on sensationalist news stories for the past 60 years, he/she will discover that most of these stories were lies, exaggerations, and distoritions. When some honest historians corrected any of these distoritions, the corrections got little or no attention. Or, anyone who made such an honest effort was badly smeared by "offical panals" of liars in the absence of the person in question. In fact, this is exactly what happened to Vidal himself. The montior of the panal was Roger Mudd (Mud?) who made all sorts of accusations against Vidal when Vidal was not on the panal to defend himself. The fact is Roger Mudd is a coward.

Vidal gives clear evidence of unbridled power and hypocrisy. He also suggests means of ending the corrpution of a centralized police state. He suggests a return to the concept of federalism and uses the examle of the Swiss. Notice the Swiss stay out of war and have high living standards. Vidal suggests that U.S. citizens could locate in areas that satisfy their cultural and social preferences.

One feature of Vidal's essays that should catch readers' attention is his criticism of the U.S. Supreme Court justices whom Vidal accuses of giving legal sanction to what is otherwise illegal and unconstitutional. This trend has only accelerated since the 1980s, and Vidal presents brief but concise explanations of these Supreme Court decisions.

While some may think some of these essays are redundant, they need to be. Those with short memories need repeated reminders of serious problems or, as the subtitle of the book reads REFLCETIONS ON THE UNITED STATES OF AMNESIA. Vidals depth of knowledge and writing style make these essays well worth reading.

Very well written with plenty of examples and R code ...

Very well written with plenty of examples and R code. It contains some theoretical background (providing proofs and derivations) as well as applications. However, since it covers a wide spectrum (it provides both frequentist and Bayesian perspectives) it doesn't duel deeply in some subjects. At the end of each chapter there are bibliographical references for those interested in further reading. Very valuable resource.

Great field guide

A very complete and beautifully illustrated field guide to the birds of Argentina and Uruguay. It features a range map, good description of the bird and a photo and illustration of the birds. The package also included a bird checklist and dvd of bird songs for many of the bird. This is a must book for anyone going to bird in Argentina or Uruguay.

A little pricey for a bird guide but it seems to cover all 1000 birds in two languages. It has photos, drawings with habitat background, maps where found, and good short descriptions. Also a I-VI rating on the probability of seeing the bird. The back cover says "contains DVD with 900 bird sounds". The book actually contains a CD of sounds which plays on a computer.

A Truly Motivating Read!

A really great read detailing all the benefits and uses for Powerlifting training. This book is an excellent resource for someone thinking about adding powerlifting training into their regimen to enhanced their fitness or athletic goals. Really enjoyed the inspiring testimonials scattered throughout the book, they are a great source of motivation for anyone and really bring to light how the 3 powerlifts can change lives. You can tell Coach Gaglione has a strong passion for the sport and its contagious while reading his book. I recommend everyone give this a read whether you are a seasoned lifter or just starting out. Happy to have this unique work in my bookshelf

Coach Gaglione really knows what he's talking about; it's great to see him put something out that shows the large umbrella of benefits to powerlifting that go far beyond what most people think of the sport. Everyone from division 1 athletes to the middle aged soccer mom can benefit from building strength and power through powerlifting and Gaglione does a great job of showing that.

I loved how this book included many testimonials from a variety of people, young , old , athletic or no athletic background. It shows how powerlifting is not just for men and not just for someone who already has lifting experience. For anyone who might be interested in starting powerlifting , I think this book would be great to read before you get started.

Exercises are Useful, But Instructions aren't Easy to Follow

The book offers several exercises for helping students practice their pronunciation skills, yet is not organized in a way that's easy for teachers and students to quickly assess what they need to do for each exercise. It provides instructions in narrative form before each exercise and offers partner practice exercises in different areas of the book--not right on pages next to each other. The text is pretty dense. I would prefer seeing instructions in a list rather than in paragraph form so to break down the information so it can be followed more easily.

No delusions only a misinterpretation needing corrections

This review made prior to mine is totally erroneous and full of errors in understanding of the teachings of this book.

Let's start with the first statement "There is so much nonsense passed off as 'scholarship' in 'Dr' Ashby's books that it really boggles the mind." Yet this statement is made only to calumniate the author and not refute the scholarship that the author provided with historical dates, locations, anthropological evidences, Greek historical quotes book sources for statements made within his opus. Next statement "These books come out of the black nationalist movement, where fabricated history is passed off as authentic. Where every African-american is descended from the Ancient Egyptians, nevermind the fact that their tribal origins can be identified from simple DNA testing." Yet the author of the book never made the statement in this book nor any of his 60+ books of African Americans being from Egypt, on the contrary Dr.Ashby's book does state the biological fact that ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH have their ancestry from Africa and that all humanity is related as brothers and sisters. Dr.Ashby is a teacher of Yoga "union"not the racial rhetoric that the previous reviewer is attempting to place on him. The previous reviewer stated "Ashby and his ilk are selling fantasies as reality and contributing to the intentional deception of ethnic origins that have caused so many blacks to feel lost and unrooted in America." Again there is no fact in this statement merely opinion based on erroneous understanding of the teaching in this book and deep seeded issues that has given the reviewer prejudice to this opus.

"The genetic fact is that African-americans came from Africa. It is also a genetic fact that they did not come from Egypt, but from West Africa." To this statement I reply again that the author of this book never made such a claim, however, many tribes in west Africa do state they migrated from north Africa and some state Egypt, so I advise the reviewer to do his research on the west African tribes and their migration there before just making such a blanket statement. Then the reviewer again makes a prejudicial comment stating "To deny this by creating some bogus fantasy origin does great harm to the ancestors of these people as well as the people themselves. This book encapsulates the worst kind of lie and propagates a contempt for tribal origins that once was the specialty of slave owners." Dr. Ashby has not stated in any way, shape, form, or fashion the origin of African Americans in particular being from Egypt. What the author has stated was the origins of the ancient Egyptians from Ethiopia and the origins of human life stemming from central Africa at the origin of the Nile in Mount Kilimanjaro and Kenya which science confirms. I would suggest the reviewer question the author himself instead of being so prejudiced and biased on the magnum opus entitled "The Kemetic Kemetic tree of life". The author encouraged feedback and questions so as to clear up any confusion and misinterpretation of the teachings, the website is on the back cover of the book and once you get on the website you can email the author instead of slandering him before you get the gist of what he's saying peace and blessings.

A very important book if you are searching for answers to the mysteries of life

I had been reading and doing research on ancient Egypt for some time. Mostly, I was fascinated with the pyramids, Giza, Sphinx, etc. The further I delved into the subject, the more interested I became into who these advanced, very intelligent ancient Egyptians were...what did they know? But the most intriguing question I had was: What was their view on the cosmos and creation? I myself come from a moderate Muslim background so I know that view only. My personal research indicates that the 3 Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) borrowed much of their beliefs from ancient Egyptian spiritual philosophy, used it as the foundation, and then each of these religions added their own extras. So that tells me that the ORIGINAL Kemetic source would be the best to learn from. Every time I was doing research, Dr. Ashby and The Kemetic Tree of Life kept popping up. So I knew the cosmos was telling me to check it out. I read the Amazon "Look Inside" and I loved it! It was exactly what I was looking for.
I was new to higher consciousness and metaphysics so I did not know much except for what organized religion tells me to believe (but that's another story). Dr. Ashby's book was not difficult to understand. You can tell his sincerity in the writing, you can feel it creep into your soul. It was like reading a book that offered me a new way to look at the world. It will take some re-reading, but this is a very important book if you are searching for answers to the mysteries of life from one of the earliest civilizations.
