Having had a lot of the standard corporate training on communication I found this book to be a well needed breath of fresh air. It is concisely written and contains practical exercises you can use to test the principles for yourself immediately. I wonder when the 2nd installment will arrive?

Driving home from Canada on the night of September 19,1961, Betty and Barney Hill of Portsmouth, New Hampshire "sighted" a flying saucer. The experience left them shaken. When they arrived in Portsmouth, Barney found inexplicable scuff marks on the tips of his shoes; Betty noted rows of mysterious shiny circles on the trunk of their car. What was worse, they realized that they could not account for almost two hours of their time on the road.

After many months of psychic distress dating from this night, the Hills sought medical assistance from a distinguished Boston psychiatrist and neurologist. Under psychotherapy, including time-regression hypnosis, the Hills gave almost identical accounts of what had happened during the lost two hours of their journey - a period of time their conscious mind had repressed. They told of an encounter with intelligent humanoid beings who took them aboard an alien space craft, questioned them, and submitted them to physical examination.

After seven months of treatment, the psychiatrist decided that neither of his patients was psychotic, and that both consciously and under hypnosis, hey told what they believed to be the absolute truth.

Here is the complete account, from beginning to end, of the story of Betty and Barney Hill. It included the actual transcriptions of the tapes made of their testimony under hypnosis, as well as the sketches they drew, both in and out of trance, of the spacecraft and humanoid creatures. Neither Betty nor Barney Hill stated that the experience could not be challenged; on the other hand, the doctor did not offer an incontrovertible assessment to discredit the Hills' testimony. Still fascinating after all these years.

I had heard about the Hill's experience many, many years ago and I often wondered if it was really true what happened to them. My own personal opinion now, after reading this book, is that it did indeed happen.I could not turn the pages fast enough. There is no way that two people could have such intricate details of an event like that and be making it up. Surely someone along the way would have seen through them. I lived in the White Mountains for a few years and being familiar with the area of occurrence made the book an even better read. The Hill's are intelligent and educated, their story is one of a kind. If you don't believe now, you will after you read this book. If the tops of your shoes get scuffed and you don't know how they got that way, you'd better check your watch !

Classic study of a landmark case from the 1960s

At the time of first publication in 1966 the story of Betty and Barney Hill's alleged abduction by extraterrestrials whilst driving home from Montreal to Portsmouth through the White Mountains of New Hampshire on the night of 19 September 1961, as told in this book by journalist John Fuller, was highly controversial and remains so to this day due to the unassailable character of the couple and the corroborative evidence which has never been convincingly refuted.

This mixed-race couple were pillars of the community: intelligent, educated, professional, church-going, active in the civil rights movement. The last thing they wanted, or needed, was to court the kind of negative publicity which might reasonably be expected to accompany such an outlandish and improbable tale.

All they initially remembered from the night in question was being pursued by a bright light, later identified as a large disk-shaped craft with strange humanoid figures observable through the windows, as they drove the quiet road south through the mountains (on later reporting the sighting to the local USAF base it transpired that this craft had been reported by many other people in the area the same night). They arrived home two hours later than anticipated with a sense of unease. The car trunk had some unexplained shiny round marks, and when a compass was placed near these marks it unaccountably spun round and round; Barney's shoes were heavily scuffed on the tops of the toes as though he had been dragged over rough ground with his feet dangling, Betty's dress was inexplicably torn and had some very unusual stains and they both remembered hearing a `beeping' sound coinciding with the UFO sighting at two different times during the journey.

Persistent nightmares and the emergence of what we might now term `post-traumatic stress' symptoms led the Hills eventually to seek medical help. The therapeutic hypnotist who treated them, Dr. Benjamin Simon, was a respected physician in Boston who had successfully treated ex-servicemen for combat trauma. He had no interest in the UFO phenomenon, no knowledge of `alien abduction' (there were no reported cases in the public domain at that time) and was astounded to uncover mutually corroborative and supporting accounts of a complex abduction by apparent extraterrestrials from each of the Hills, who were regressed separately and carefully managed so they could not communicate their memories to each other. The Hills themselves, when they heard their taped sessions, had a hard time coming to terms with it all and initially refused to believe their own memories. Simon remained skeptical, even though he could not shake the recovered memories and in fact they explained all the symptoms (there were physical and anatomical symptoms for both the Hills following the incident).

John Fuller's book tells the whole story of this case, simultaneously investigated by the local US Air Force base, by NICAP and other organizations, and later serialised and sensationalised in the national press. The Hills became reluctant celebrities, and this unlooked-for fame brought them many problems. Betty survived Barney by many years, and subsequent paranormal incidents followed on the heels of the landmark White Mountains abduction.

This is not of itself the `best' book ever written on the alien abduction phenomenon, but it's an essential classic and an object lesson in how to carry out an investigation properly whilst not allowing prejudice born of personal beliefs to deny the uncomfortable evidence as it emerges, but to remain skeptical and true to the scientific method. The reader should keep in mind that this was all new in 1966, the first time such a possibility had ever been entertained and no-one has ever been able to `debunk' the accumulated evidence.

A good companion volume to `The Interrupted Journey' for a deeper understanding of this important case is the more recent `Captured!' written by Kathy Marden (Betty Hill's niece) with contributions from Stanton Friedman.

Watch the Skies; Check Your Watch.

Reading this book was like watching A Hard Day's Night and recognizing the launching of an era. I have read all of Budd Hopkins' books, which are quite enjoyable and/or upsetting. Now I have discovered the granddaddy of all alien abductee regressive hypnosis transcibed sessions books.
Fuller gives the reader the necessary background information, then offers the original (edited for relevancy) transcripts from the psychiatriist's files. What a great thing it is that these sessions were tape recorded. The Hills weren't the first to be taken, but they were the first to go public, although unwillingly.
It is amusing in hindsight to read the doctor's repeated attempts to get Barney to admit that the entire encounter was a dream - if not his dream, then surely Betty's, which he somehow absorbed. Barney wants so much to believe that it was, but under hypnosis, he can only call it as he sees it.
The Interrupted Journey is a classic of UFO-related literature. It will remain fringe material so long as the UFO reality is under wraps, but when the buggers are finally outed, this book will go mainstream and become required reading.

The Author: Robin Andersen is Associate Professor of Communication and Media Studies and Director of the Peace and Justice Studies Program at Fordham University. She received her Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine. Her writings appear in numerous book chapters and journal articles, and she is the author of Consumer Culture and TV Programming (1995) and co-editor of Critical Studies in Media Commercialism (2000).

A Must Read to Better Understand the War in Iraq

Media critic Robin Andersen's timely work, A Century of Media, A Century of War, is a must read for those seeking to understand how we were drawn into the war in Iraq.

Just how did the Bush Administration and its corporate media allies sell us on successive lies to get us into this war? Director of the Peace and Justice Studies Program at Fordham University, Professor Andersen investigates the collaborative relationship of the media with the current and past administrations to promote the wars of the last 100 years.

The chapter, "The Military Entertainment Complex: Permanent War and the Digital Spectacular," is the most cogent look yet at the nexus of the media industry and the Pentagon as Andersen examines the Department of Defense's (DOD) funding of corporate research and development of "militainment" for the recruitment, training and selling of current and future wars.

In her conclusion, "War, Humanism and Democracy," Andersen clearly elucidates the threat the media/DOD collusion is to democracy, writing, "Militainment does not fulfill the media's democratic mandate, any more than does the simple dissemination of government proclamations."

This seminal work provides the reader with a better understanding of how we are being manipulated and gives us the tools to cut through the media fog surrounding wars and maybe, just maybe, help prevent future armed conflicts that are not in the nation's interest.

An amazing study of the US state's wars and the media

This is an amazing book. Robin Andersen, Associate Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University, studies the US media's role in times of war. Her book is full of the most dreadful facts about the USA's wars. From print in World War One to video games in the Gulf War, the media have used the most up-to-date advertising and marketing techniques to whip up public support for those wars.

War video games promote war as a fun, empowering game. They are also used for military training. The video game America's Army became the army's most important recruitment tool. At one time it had three million players, making it the number one free online action game.

Digital spectaculars like Top Gun, Rambo, Saving Private Ryan, and Black Hawk Down all promote war as heroic and humane. Who needs reasons for war when there are such striking images of war?

The military becomes part of entertainment, especially sports events. Propaganda is silent about deaths, especially civilian deaths, about the use of vile anti-personnel weapons like phosphorus bombs and cluster bombs, about international law, and about opposition to the war.

General MacArthur admitted that the US forces' scorched earth policy had created `a wasteland' in North Korea. One of the Korean War's main activists, Dean Rusk, said, the USAF bombed `everything that moved, every brick standing on top of another brick'. An official communiqué said, "It's hard to find good targets, for we have burned out almost everything." In the 1950 No Gun Ri massacre, in South Korea, "Roughly three hundred civilians, many of them women and children, were bombed and strafed from the air by U.S. gunner pilots under direct military command to do so."

The best historian of the Korean War, Bruce Cumings, wrote of "three years of genocidal bombing by the U.S. Air Force which killed perhaps two million civilians (one-quarter of the population), dropped oceans of napalm, left barely a modern building standing, opened large dams to flood nearby rice valleys and kill thousands of peasants by denying them food, and went far beyond anything done in Vietnam in a conscious program of using air power to destroy a society ..."

This is how murder and torture were justified, how the destruction of property and the sabotage of the economy and the social fabric of a nation were excused, all in the name of patriotism and anticommunism."

In 1990, a Kuwaiti girl lied to the US Congress that Iraqi soldiers had stormed Kuwaiti hospitals and thrown premature babies out of their incubators and left them on the floor to die. Amnesty International fell for this and stated in its report to Congress that 312 babies were killed. The girl who told this lie was the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the USA. The girl had been coached by the PR firm Hill and Knowlton. She later admitted her story was not true.

During the Gulf War of 1990-91, a study found that the more television that people watched, the less they knew and the more they backed the war.

The Downing Street memo of July 2002 said that war on Iraq was `inevitable' and that "facts were being fixed around the policy". Yet for months afterwards Bush and Blair lied that war would only be `a last resort'.

Totally Unbiased Reporting

This book is mostly fact, intertwined with the author's interpretation of the latter.

On page 315 author Robin Andersen writes about Abe Lincoln who said: "I am a firm believer in people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet the national crisis."

Unfortunately, the people are NOT given the facts, as Ms. Andersen shows for more than 300 pages.

This book documents how America's imperial tendencies have not simply been ignored, but promoted by the mass media.

Some quotes are as follows............

The author Robin Andersen refers to suffering and death as "an acceptable practice in contemporary democratic society." Is she referring to contemporary American democratic society, or contemporary world democratic society? One can only imagine.

On the Iraq War Andersen quotes a Dr. Jabbar who said: "I saw the cluster bombs with my own eyes. Not less than 60% of the dead were women and children."

Probably, most telling, she points out that the operation to rescue an elite group of American soldiers, documented in the film "Black Hawk Down," left more than one thousand Somalis dead, in order to rescue a dozen odd American soldiers.

A horribly accurate tale of government and media collaboration to present war to the public as something that we can't live without.

Four stars. One star missing for the staccato style of reporting. But this woman is a scholar, not a writer.

About the Author

Very useful book. Not only for students at different levels, but also for the engineers working in wind project development. This book is recommended also for persons living in countries with non developed wind power to get the information how to support the idea on wind power introduction.
Comparative analysis of the measures that act as a driving force or a barrier for wind power development is of practical importance. The discussion on the environment impact of wind power projects is detailed as well the spatial planning recommendation.

When I ordered this book and looking at the price I was skeptical as to whether it would deliver the value it proposed. After reviewing and reading it is a great addition to Paul Gipe's book wind power. Paul Gipe's book goes into heavy reading and detail which is super, for for a summary book and helping fill in the gaps and present information to your employees and audiences in a simple real practical terms this book is a super and great asset. There are great pictures, tables and illustrations. Additionally, it is well written and easy to comprehend.

About the Author

Andres Solimano received his Ph.D in Economics from MIT and is Founder and President of the International Center for Globalization and Development. He is currently Research Associate at the Business School of Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile. He was formerly Country Director at the World Bank, Executive Director at the InterAmerican Development Bank, Regional Advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Director of the Latin American School for Social Sciences (FLACSO). Second half was better than the first half

The Greek Millionaire's Secret Child by Catherine Spencer is a Harlequin Presents book. I thought the second half was better than the first half. The first half had too much dialogue and was slow in getting the chemistry started between hero and heroine. Nurse Emily Tylor comes to Greece to take care of Pavlos Leonidas. She meets up with his estranged son Niko who think that Emily is a gold-digger out to get her father's vast fortune. So he decides to seduce Emily himself to show her true colors. It doesn't take too long before he realizes that she is not a gold-digger, but is actually a very compassionate, giving young lady. Niko though won't commit to anything long-term because he likes to live life dangerously, flying all over the world on goodwill/mercenary missions. He doesn't want a wife and family to worry about him, plus he likes what he does, and doesn't want to give it up even for Emily. Emily leaves Greece and returns home not realizing that she is pregnant with his baby. But she has to go back to Greece when Pavlos's condition takes a turn for the worse. This is story had some very tender, heart-breaking moments. I particularly liked the hero, Niko. He held the story together for me. 4 stars!

Close but no cigar

I gave this story two stars and I'll explain why. I didn't necessarily dislike the story line but I found that there was a lot of unnecessary dialogue between the hero and the heroine Emily and Nikolaos, they had these verbal sparring matches that were neither exciting or funny, rather just long winded in my opinion. Also this is the first time I have experienced a wishy washy hero. Niko seemed so indecisive about whether he was pursing Emily for his own nefarious reasons or whether it was do to a genuine attraction for her, and because he couldn't seem to decide his motives, I as a reader was confused and frustrated.

The premise of this story is that Niko meets Emily after she becomes his 80 year old father's nurse who has suffered a serious fall while visiting Canada, along with the fact that the father is generally in poor health to begin with. Niko is instantly suspicious of Emily with no real reason for it; he believes that she is a gold-digger. Why? Because his father seems to like her and the two have a cordial, friendly and warm relationship, which is something Niko seems to be lacking with his own father. The general coldness and distain that father and son show each other is just horrible, they neither have a kind or considerate word for one another despite the fact that the older man is pretty much coming to the end of his life rapidly.

Emily essentially becomes piggy in the middle she has to show consideration and care for her employer who has hired her to do a job, while at the same time she is deeply attracted to said employers son; who he virtually hates with a passion. It's a true mess to say the least and to add into the mix as I stated earlier Niko isn't sure from one moment to the next whether or not he sees Emily as saint or sinner. The only redeeming thing about this book was that from the start Emily never shied away from expressing the attraction she left for Niko, when asked how she felt she told him flat out.

Perhaps I am the wrong person to give a more objective review of this book because I didn't finish it, which is a rarity with me and books, but in this instance I just couldn't make myself. All the volleying and all over the place and long winded take a year and a day dialogue between these two, not to mention the complete loathing and animosity that Niko and his father showed towards one another combined to make this story a complete turn off. I didn't feel any desire to continue it and see how they reached their "inevitable harlequin happy ending" for me it would have rang false when for the first 100 or so pages each character is either overly suspicious of the other or they hate each others guts.

I hope someone else has a better review and view point then I did. I truly hate to give a negative review if I can help it. Happy Reading......

Super book!

The Greek Millionaire's Secret Child by Catherine Spencer is a wonderful story about two people who fall in love and then have to work to overcome the very real conflict that threatens that love. Emily comes to Greece as a nurse to Niko's injured father. The old man is a difficult patient but Emily is equally strong-willed and they have grown fond of each other. She soon discovers that Niko and his father do not get along and never have. It breaks her heart to see the animosity between them. Niko is suspicious of Emily initially, thinking her a gold digger after his father's money, but soon comes to see her as she really is: a competent nurse and a kind-hearted woman. They fall in love, but Emily's need for security (because of a difficult childhood) and Niko's need for adventure (he risks his life to fly aid planes to war-torn countries) do not allow for a happy future. The various relationships are realistic and involving. It's refreshing to read a romance in which the characters discuss their problems rather than let a flimsy misunderstanding keep them apart. Flawless, elegant writing and the lush setting also enhace the story. This book is a winner.

I thought this would give more examples. This just says start slow with dirty talk then try more intense things. Waste of money.

Terrible. English as second language maybe?

Really worthless as a book. Each chapter said roughly the same thing over and over. The one chapter that says it has examples DOESN'T. It has 2 paragraphs that SAY Example #1 and Example #2, but neither actually has an example. This is not worth your money to buy, or even worth your time if you peruse it on Kindle Unlimited, as I did. If all that wasn't clear enough: DO NOT GET THIS BOOK.

Miss Boner has really come up with a great source of fabulous mouthfuls. I've never been very good at dirty talk either before or during the act itself however this book has given me a new burst of confidence and I'll certainly try giving my fella a good mouthful tonight and see what he thinks of it. About the Author
Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa was born in Königstein, Germany in 1966. He followed his passion for zoology by studying in Gießen and Göttingen (Germany), where he received his PhD in 1996. He worked as a PostDoc in Pittsburgh and Tampa (USA) and as assistant researcher at the Universities of Bielefeld and Braunschweig. Currently in the Department of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Bielefeld, he is about to take up a position as the Curator at the Zoological Museum at the University of Hamburg.

Peerlessly Detailed Survey of Comparative Morphology

If you're looking at this book, you probably already know what you're in for. This is a tremendously detailed text on comparative morphology that seeks to trace the origins of organ systems from the original metazoans on downward. Each chapter takes a separate organ system -- nervous, circulatory, excretory, and so forth -- and discusses how it is structured with respect to the phyla (ALL of the phyla). It then concludes with the author's analysis of the implications of the morphological discussion for evolution -- which features were original to a shared ancestor (thereby indicating relationships between the phyla), and which are instead likely just the product of convergent evolution.

Not being an introductory text, this book will probably be incomprehensible if you do not already know a fair bit about all the metazoan phyla and some of the competing theories regarding their origins and differentiation. But that being said, it's not overly complex otherwise, and is a very interesting read. The illustrations, moreover, are well done and plentiful.

If I had a criticism, it would be that the text gets a little dull and rote, mechanically following its organizational scheme without as many digressions and charming anecdotes as I'd like. But you can't have everything. There's really no other book out there in English, to my knowledge, that is as detailed on this subject. So if you are at all interested in comparative morphology of the phyla, this is the one for you.

A must have zoology book

Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa did an excellent job in writing this textbook. The idea of organizing the chapters in organ systems is innovative and very useful. One can realize that the author is an experienced teacher in zoology - its very well written and the numerous tables in which the type and structure of the organ systems in different animal taxa give a quick overview.
It combines all recent morphological studies and discussed them in the light of recent phylogenies. Always open minded, never dogmatic it gives a balanced view of common hypotheses about the evolution of the different organ systems.
I use this book nearly daily and I just have the paper back edition and think about getting the hardcover.
This book earns attention, its excellent as a reference and for teaching zoology.
Hopefully there will be a second edition!
